sexual preferences. Nikolay tends to be more dominant with women, maybe 60-40, but certainly doesn't have a problem with the female party taking the lead sometimes. With men, he falls a hair short of a 50-50 split, leaning a bit submissive mostly because of lack of experience/confidence with men. In bed with men, he's initially going to just want to top because being the penetrating party is the only modality of sex that he knows, but over time he's going to realize that he really enjoys being fingered/prostate stimulation in general and will fall more firmly into the category of true vers. He'll give or receive oral sex with any gender of partner, though he's not particularly crazy about cunnilingus and doesn't get any arousal out of it himself - it's solely for his partner's enjoyment.
romantic preferences. Nikolay is bisexual and hasn't really realized that yet, so initially he's going to only be interested in a very fraternal sort of homoeroticism he can write off as arrangements of mutual need/pragmatism and write off any romantic feelings as a comradely, brotherly bond. He's strictly monogamous and poly is not an option with him; in a sexgame setting, he might be able to accept an open relationship, but it would take time. OOCly I'm not opposed to shipping with nb characters, but it would take a lot of ooc planning and ic development for Nikolay to get to that point.
physical preferences. ( !! disclaimer - nikolay's biases do not reflect my own ooc !! ) Nikolay has a few dealbreakers/aversions: women being taller than him, men with long hair or beards long enough to project outward from the face instead of being short enough to stay flush with the skin, and makeup/femme or GNC presentation in men. He finds smoking unattractive but can overlook it if he likes everything else about the partner. Very thin people and twinks will, to a 1940s Russian, clock as unhealthy and unattractive; he prefers partners who are at an average weight or a little softer at the edges. Nikolay's not opposed to dating/having sex with fat characters, but it's very case by case as to whether or not they press the right buttons for him. Limb loss/use of disability aids isn't a big deal to him. He really goes for other military men.

height. 5'11
weight/build. This canonically fluctuates quite a bit - prior to returning to flight he's very wiry and leans underweight with a gaunt, angular look to him. Shown to be pretty slim on active duty, and a little softer, especially in the face, during the period in canon when food is readily available to him and he's not in a combat zone. Maybe ~145 with atrophy, ~165 in regular combat, ~180 when he's eating well and not under heavy exertion. In Duplicity he'll eventually hit equilibrium at like 180 once he's had a lot of time to recover. He's generally in good shape from pretty aggressively working out regardless of canonpoint, but at a lower weight his muscles are very sharply defined in a way that they aren't when he's doing a little better - at which point he just looks kind of robust and sturdy as opposed to like, chiseled.
body hair. Yes, a moderate amount. Black and fine, kept natural; it starts pretty low on his chest and is smooth but thick over his sternum. Similarly, he doesn't do anything with it down below, and will be very ???? about men who do.
genitals. Uncut, a little bigger than average but nothing to tell a friend about—generally just proportional to his height/build.


pertinent info re: amputation/prostheses
Mid-canon onwards, Nikolay is a double below-the-knee (BTK) amputee fitted with era-typical prostheses. Although the limbs were removed a few inches above his ankles and therefore left the majority of his shins intact, his prosthetic legs completely cover his residual limbs up to the knee. They're not nearly as ergonomic or complex in their range of motion as modern prostheses, and that impacts every aspect of his life—to include sex.

While the impact isn't super profound being that his knees and shins can support him in bed, there are things that are very difficult and uncomfortable for him—for instance, getting down on his knees for oral sex while a partner stands isn't something he'll be too keen on because he's still in the process of mastering getting back up (and also, kneeling creates weird pressure points on his residual limbs because of how hard the prostheses are and their total lack of dorsiflexion).

Where self-confidence and self-perception are concerned, he prefers to engage in ways that don't require him to take off his prostheses—completely out of the question with a stranger—or ideally to expose his bare legs at all. In a very emotionally close relationship, with time, his preference will be to take them off when he undresses, as it's a lot more comfortable for him that way.

Post-canon, sex is a source of anxiety for Nikolay—he's dealing with the return of all of the normal sexual wants and urges he had before he was disabled and is trying to reconcile that with the new reality of occupying a body he does not see as sexual or desirable. He won't handle it well (as in, it will completely kill the encounter) if a partner focuses on his residual limbs or prostheses and psychologically just isn't at a point where he can cope with a partner acknowledging that he's different. To the same effect, while it's also a hard OOC no, IC amputation kink or sexual fixation on his residual limbs or prostheses will feel incredibly degrading and dehumanizing to him regardless of how "positive" a character sees their interest as being.
