DUPLICITY
Nikolay's a Soviet pilot in WWII whose life takes a hard left when his plane goes down in the Russian wilderness in the dead of winter and he has to survive in enemy territory for two weeks hatchet-style. He almost dies of sepsis and pneumonia, but is found and brought to a military hospital in time for a lifesaving double below the knee amputation, then has to relearn to stand, walk, etc and generally navigate the world as a person with two prosthetic legs. While in a severe depression, he hears about the English pilot Douglas Bader, who flies with prostheses, and that's enough to give him hopeβultimately his innate determination and love of being in the air win out, and he spends over a year working himself to the point of exhaustion to build up the physical strength/stamina and skill on his new legs needed to fly. At the canonpoint I'm pulling him from, he still hasn't gotten into the air yet or been formally discharged, and his girlfriend in Moscow doesn't know if he's dead or alive because he can't find the words to write to her.

Weight/Build: This canonically fluctuates quite a bit - prior to returning to flight he's very wiry and leans underweight with a gaunt, angular look to him. Shown to be pretty slim on active duty, and a little sturdier and softer, especially in the face, during the period in canon when food is readily available to him and he's not in a combat zone. Maybe ~145 with atrophy, ~165 in regular combat, ~180 when he's eating well and not under heavy exertion. In Duplicity he'll eventually hit equilibrium at like 180 once he's had a lot of time to recover. He's generally in good shape from pretty aggressively working out regardless of canonpoint, but at a lower weight his muscles are very sharply defined in a way that they aren't when he's doing a little better - at which point he just looks kind of robust and sturdy as opposed to like, chiseled.
As of late March 2024 very toned but starting to get back into combat condition, with his cheeks a little less hollow than they were. The angles to him at least aren't as sharp now as they were in the hospital, but he has a ways to go.

Nikolay's been in the city since late December, and since that time he's found a Dominant (aspirers) and moved in with her and made a few friends. That said, he's still having trouble adjusting—while he's slowly becoming desensitized to some things enough to at least function, living in such a hypersexualized environment is hard for him as a Russian from the conservative Stalinist 1940s. He's been scraping by on quota, mostly with men—he's able to tell himself that it's not that serious with men because he doesn't believe himself to be attracted to them, but with women, it's very serious. He still misses his girlfriend, Olga, although he's starting to feel distinct feelings of ill-fated attraction toward one of the first people to help him adjust to his new life, Natasha (balletmoves).
Because he's spent the past three months getting by quota on technicality—mostly just servicing other men in one-sided interactions with few exceptions—Nikolay hasn't really faced his fears of intimacy yet. He's starting to come around to the idea that his disabled body might not be repellent to everyone, but he sees the people who know about his amputation/prostheses and still have a desire to be intimate with him as a) exceptions and b) probably only okay with it because they haven't actually seen him take them off—something he hasn't done around anyone yet, and something that will take a lot of character development and trust/intimacy for him to feel comfortable enough to do. Although they're fully consensual, he doesn't really get much (or any) arousal from these interactions and meets intimacy with a lot of anxiety/gets very lost in his won thoughts, so he's still harboring the deep-down fear that he sustained some sort of reproductive damage during his time in the wilds. Eventually he's going to get up the courage to see a NPC doctor about it, and he'll be told that it's psychological, not physical, but he's not quite there yet.
